Position

Mauritius is a small island located in the southwestern part of the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. The island is only 61 km long and 47 km wide, there are so many amazing places here that they could be divided into at least several countries.

Temperature of water

The seasons will not matter much if you want to swim in the ocean, because even in the winter months the water temperature does not drop below 21°C, while in summer (i.e. from January to May) it reaches up to 27°C.

Rainfall and cyclones

We can expect rainfall on the island all year round, but the local summer season, which is much warmer, is also more abundant in rain - most rainfall falls in the period from January to March. Winter in Mauritius is the dry season, so there is much less rainfall from May to November. Less rainfall is recorded on the west and north coasts than on the east. The wettest and coldest area in Mauritius is the central part of the island and the Chamarel Mountains located in the south, which owe their lush green vegetation to this increased humidity.

Climate

Mauritius is located in the southern hemisphere, so the seasons are opposite to the European climate zone. Summer in Mauritius lasts from November to May, and winter from May to November. Average daytime temperatures in winter are 23 degrees Celsius, while in summer they are above 30 degrees Celsius. The sun shines for an average of 8-9 hours a day, and in winter about 7-8 hours.

Natural conditions

The island (surface 1,865 km²) is approximately oval in shape, with a longer diameter of 61 km and a shorter diameter of 47 km. The beaches in Mauritius are among the most beautiful in the world - surrounded by green palm trees and a crystal azure ocean. There is a preserved coral reef around the coast, making it ideal for diving. Windsurfers, lovers of water skiing, sailing, fishing and golf will also not regret a trip to Mauritius. Mauritius also surprises with ideal conditions for mountain climbing and trekking, and will be an ideal solution for everyone dreaming of a truly relaxing holiday.
